Saving for a Rainy Day

Money, Money, Money

Saving for a Rainy Day

money pots, pringle, coke cola

This is all my saving pots, well ok a pringles box, coke bottle and money pot my littte bro, ("little" neaely 30) bought me.  If I manage to fill them all I'll have a grand total of €3078, New York here I come.

Saving isn't easy for anyone but not matter how little you put out away it all adds up.  The coke cola bottle holds 0.20c the handbag jar holds €2 coins and the pringles jar you save the amount as per the week of the year.  For example week starting 6th April is week fifteen so you'd save €15.  If you aren't sure what week it is just look in a dairy and it's usually says it at the top, like in below picture.

Mammy Red Heads Tips
  • Save no matter the amount
  • If you miss a week start again the following week
  • Get a nice fancy pot, (but don't spend loads)
  • Get a coke bottle with your name on it, simple
  • Try taking out an amount and only spend that for the week, don't use your cards
  • Empty your pockets of change every day
  • Get the kids involved
  • Save to a goal

Pretty Hair

Pretty Hair - Easter

Like any baba Mini miss wouldn't be the best at staying still for long but since she was tiny like any crazy mama once I popped her out (ya because it was that easy), I was straight to the shop buying hairbands, slides and bows.  Sadly Mini miss wasn't blessed with lushes locks, a bit like her Mammy who "fun fact" was bald till I was two, I kid you not.
So Mini miss is getting into the pretty dresses and pretty hair and she must have her Daddy's hair growth as it's getting so long.  Mammy Red Head is pulling out all the many many hair things I've bought and throw on the Gruffalo and Mini miss will let me braid, pony tail and bunch her fluffy little hair.

Hehehe I love how in every pic Mini miss is facing side ways!
So of course I now find every opportunity to pic up new hair things and I love Pennys, they great for doing themed items and they've not let me down with for Easter.

I pick up most of Mini miss hair accessories in :
Pennys
H&M
Dunnes
Heatons
Accessorize

* Tired of trying to keep all those clips together keep an eye on the blog for an up coming post on a very handy little gadget I made, to keep them all in one place.

Oh the Shame!!

Oh the Shame!!What's in My Bag/Handbag

Ok so here goes I'm doing a" whats in my bag post". . .

whats in your bag

My bag/handbag; Yes all goes into one, I love my bag my brill little bro ("little"- nealry 30), bought me this bag in Dubai, he's got good taste and knows me so well.  Everything fits into this bag wait till you see all that I get into it.  I do-give Ryanair a run for their money when it comes to packing.

contents of the mammy bag

The contents; Yup! all this was in that bag but I'm so shamed I've seen some amazing "what's in my bag" post and Oh Goodness just look, Mini miss food gets put in a plastic freezer bag, nappies and wipes neatly tidied in corner of bag, no pretty pouch to hold them?  The crayons are in a nice Frozen case and I've the nice princess tissues from Penny's.  I recently felt it was time to treat myself to a new purse, how cute is the purse? It's from the Mantaray Range in Debenhams and as an added bonus I got 20% of it. The dummy is on a chain but I'm still on the search for a dummy chain my Mini miss wouldn't break or lose.  A must have in my bag is the eczema spray which I have a blog coming about very soon it's an amazing range.  My diary and pen I wouldn't know what to do for the I'd end up sitting in the car rocking going "where to go where to go".

*  Right so I'm setting myself a challenge 'tidy up the Mammy bag'.
Have you got a must have in your bag please tell me about it or a product that helps organise things please share . . .
I'll keep you updated :)

Party Planning - Tea Party Style

Tea Party the 2 Year old Way *Hints and Tips*

For Mini misses second birthday I decided to have tea party theme, I know I know I can hear your eyes rolling but give the party a theme its makes it easier.  I go all out make the cake, the decorations, the invites, make as much as I can, but stick to a tight budget, which is defiantly the hardest part, oh and finding the time to do it all.  The likes of dealz and Tiger are great for picking up things and for lights to add that extra bit of sparkle Penny's  are doing an amazing range of lights at the moment every things from ice pops, pink flamingos to spiderman.  No modern Mammy's party planning is complete without a sneak peek into Pinterest, and while the ideas on it can look amazing all I'd say is why not just give yourself the challenge of doing one of the probably hundred odd pins you've pinned.  Don't forget there is so many Free Printable's on Pinterest to; invitations, banners, cup cake toppers you'll save loads.
invites, pintrest, pennys lites pennys picture frame, pennys lantern

In the above picture you'll see;
  • The teapot invites, which were cut out by hand from free printable templates from Pinterest, I picked up the paper in lidl ages ago and the invite inside is a picture of Mini miss and the detail just typed up and printed up at home.
  • The hanging door decoration you may recognize from a previous post of mine "Pinterest Mammy" .
  • My fire guard which can be an eye sore I decorated with a daisy chain of flower lights from Penny's, battery operated and little butterfly from the €2 shop Easter collection.
  • I decided then to make my mantle piece a vocal point and on it is my wedding brooch bouquet, lanterns from Penny's, Mini miss cake smash pictures and her teddies and a little tea cup candle.
  • If u look very closely in the reflection of the mirror u will see *glitter balloons hanging from the roof, oh yes as you may have guessed these where from Pinterest, I did try getting pictures of them but they just would picture well nothing like the pinned pin i had in Pinterest but the kids loved them. *glitter balloons - blow balloon up, smear with pvc glue (i found kitchen roll the best), shake with glitter, tie coloured ribbon on and hang straight away.glitter-balloons - pinterest
cupcakes, bettycroker, tea party, homestoreandmore, tesco, asda, decobakecupcakes, bettycroker, tea party, homestoreandmore, tesco, asda, decobake

"It's all about the yummies"; in the above pictures you see
  • A selection of cupcakes which i love to bake.  I buy my cupcake cases and decorations every where but the best places I find are, Tesco, Home Store and More Asda and Decobake.  Edible papers and character cupcake toppers I use the internet.  I used to make my own toppings then I discovered betty crocker toppings the best short cut ever, they taste lovely, they pipe so easy and keep an eye out you'll always find them on special for €2, Ms Betty is always hiding in my bakery cupboard.
  • The pink wafer fingers are dipped in white chocolate and decorated with sprinkles this is a lovely age appropriate Tea Party idea.
  • I popped the sweets into little tea cups instead of bowls jsut to keep with the theme.
  • The cake I made and as like many of the "great" half of it is fake!  The tea pot is a polystyrene ball covered and decorated with rolled icing.  It took an hour and half to make and my only tip when making something like this is make sure you have a clear head and no distractions.
  • The trays, plates and tiered holders are yet again things I've picked up along the way, if you're going to get into doing bits for parties pick up things when you see them, as you when your looking for them you wouldn't find them.

It's inevitable that while planning any party there will be miss haps, spilled milk, burst balloons, the odd argument but no matter the even don't loose sight of the reason you're doing what you're doing. It's often said to me sure why don't you just buy the cake, because I enjoy making the cake I find it relaxing, it may be someone else's nightmare to fiddle for ten minuets making a fondant rose but that to me is relaxing and gives me a sense of achievement.  It doesn't matter if the cakes and cupcakes are store bought or handmade the only thing you gotta have is love, music oh and of course rice crispie buns!

Last minute Mother's Day idea - Penny's style

Mother's Day - Penny's style

Mammy red head is very Lucky to have a mammy to buy for on Mothers's Day but after 30 odd years of gift buying my ideas are running thin and I feel that it's more important to tell my mam throughout the year that she is special instead of just one hallmark day! Last night I had twenty minuets to spare and said that's it I'm sorting out Mothers's Day and I thought to Penny's I go.  Now don't get me wrong my Mam deserves diamonds, holidays, Prada handbags but stay at home mammies pay is . . . Oh yes 0 I get payment in hugs which are lovely but unfortunately Brown Thomas don't except hugs, I did ask!   But my Mammy does and she also loves wandering round Penny's picking up bits and pieces and the odd bargain, so I thought i'd bring Penny's to her in a basket. I started grabbing and throwing in, oh so dangerous but €40 later and a very heavy basket I felt I'd done well!

What you think? I know my Mam will have a ball sifting through all the goodies and I had fun shopping for it.  Here's a break down of whats in the basket. . .

There's everything from a shower cap (reduced to 50c) bargain, travel brush/mirror, lint roller, nail files, pj's, candles, a mug and much more.  The basket is from a set of two that cost €8 but if you where sticking to a tight budget you could get one of the lovely gift bags they have in Penny's or they have lovely rolls of paper for €1.50 /€2.  For just €10 you could get the pjs, mug and two candles that you see in the pictures total bargain sure what more could a Mammy want a cuppa, nice pjs and nice smelly candles?? Well Jamie Dornan to light the candles maybe??

Mother's Day while certainly is fueled by hallmark and every shop you walk into their trying to get a slice of the pie, but speaking as a Mammy just to be remembered by my kids and hubby in their own special way is all I ask. I hope I've helped give you some ideas for gifts and sure if anything it's any to head to Penny's !
